The Main House of the Inn dates back to 1798. According to research by Trevor Maxwell, a reporter of the Cape Cod Times, it might have served as a hiding place for slaves traveling along the "Underground Railroad." In his article "Ties to Freedom," Trevor described the small stone cellar found under a trap door in the Inn's entrance foyer.
